‘Are U Comfortable’ is part of a series exploring body image and how we are affected by the overload of information that surrounds us. Advertising and the media attack us with pictures of perfectly unrealistic human forms that we not only strive to attain, but feel as though we should already be, no matter how little effort we put into these goals. This is only contradicted by the hedonistic lifestyle also advertised to us, fast food, nightlife and unhealthy habits we are manipulated into wanting and needing. Placed in the middle of this idealized body image and pleasurable lifestyle, it is easy for one to become trapped in a constant state of self hatred and need of comfort. 'Are U Comfortable' is my most realized expression of these themes, is a digital collage forged from images in advertising, particularly Men's Health magazines. It focuses on male body dysmorphia, which is a subject I feel is often overlooked in relation to men’s metal heath.
